FOND DU LAC (NBC 26) -- A group of Fond du Lac residents are coming together to urge the city not make any changes to Lakeside Park.
The City Council is exploring an option that would turn part of Lakeside Park into a multipurpose building. One of those tenants could be a new restaurant.
"We are always looking for ways to make our city more attractive," said Brian Kolstad, the council President. "Especially we are looking at what ways we can serve future generations."
However, some residents don't want the park changed.
"This is about history," said Barry Cassetta, the organizer of the petition. "Our city found this hidden gem, a crown jewel, nothing should happen, it is for the people."
The City Council approved a feasibility study this year to see what is possible for that section of the park. That study is scheduled to be finished in October.
If the plan continues, Kolstad says tax payers would only have to pay for the surrounding parking lot - a private investor would fund the rest.
