GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Green Bay’s Broadway District is about to get a lot more colorful: this weekend is the first Mural and Busker Festival.

Jake Eggert is no stranger to the Broadway District, regularly bringing Mischief and Magic to the farmers market. This weekend will be like nothing he’s seen before though, he said.

“Our biggest thing is we get to give smiles to people for living," said Eggert. “We're really excited just to see some of the live art and to get out into work with other buskers too because I think there are some in green bay, but you know it's nice to kind of see other things too.”

While buskers are painting faces and performing magic tricks, ten artists will be completing murals all over the Broadway District. Tamara Mclean is one of the artists, and her painting will be in the parking lot behind Pete's Garage.

“The theme of my mural is home," she said. "And it signifies the tree-filled neighborhoods throughout Green Bay. So in the horizon there will be a silhouette of a neighborhood, and then large trees will cast shadows in the foreground.”

The goal of the Mural and Busker Festival is to showcase the talents of local artists and entertainers.

“We look at other revitalization projects across the nation of other downtowns," said Brooke Hafs, Marketing Director for On Broadway Inc. "A huge part of their success is when they install public art, these beautiful spaces for people to come out and kind of wander and explore the district.”

The weekend also just brings some fun to Broadway.

“I think it brings energy and excitement," said Mclean. "And just a fun spirit.”

If you come to the Broadway District today through the weekend, you can watch the muralists painting. The buskers will be entertaining around the District on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
