U.S. Navy announced Thursday that Fincantieri Marinette Marine was awarded a contract to build the Navy’s new frigate. Fincantieri Marinette Marine shipyard has been selected to build a class of up to 10 multimission guided-missile frigates (FFGs) for the Navy’s FFG(X) program, according to a news release from Senator Tammy Baldwin’s office.
Wisconsin members of Congress are applauding the decision.
Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-WI), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, called it a “massive win” for Northeast Wisconsin.
Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) also called it a big win, saying it will bring an additional 1,000 jobs to Marinette as the Navy quickly moves forward with construction of the Frigate.
A news release from Gallagher’s office said if all options are exercised on the contract, it will deliver the first ten FFG (X) ships for a total of more than $5.5 billion.
