State leaders continue to strengthen the relationship with Wisconsin's tribal nations.
On Thursday, Governor Tony Evers met with tribal leaders at the Radisson Hotel and Conference Center Green Bay to sign consultation agreements, reaffirming the relationship between the two.
"It's a way for us to keep check, but it's also... to me, it's always been around the much broader concept of whether the tribal nations are sovereign or not," Evers said after signing the documents. "And I'm telling you as I stand here as governor of the State of Wisconsin, they are."
The development of these agreements has been in the works for more than a year.
