DENMARK, Wis. (NBC 26) -- A local winery is expanding. Duck Creek Vineyard & Winery has added on a new tasting room.

When you walk through the front door at Duck Creek Vineyard & Winery, you'll notice a new room to your left.

"We put a brand new addition," said James Ploetz, the owner at Duck Creek Vineyard & Winery. "All of 2020 was working on getting this ready for people to be able to come in."

James said they outgrew the old tasting room. A group of people would stop out and things would get a little cramped.

With the new tasting room, there is enough space for folks to come in, social distance and still have a good time.

"The space is beg enough," said Ploetz. "Outside we have a nice wrap around patio where people can sit and look at the grapevines."

They make more than 20 varieties of wines and 7 meads, which is wine made from honey from a local beekeeper.

"We have 9 different spirits that we do," said Ploetz. "Anything from bourbon to Grandma's Apple Pie."

Aside from their spacious, laid back environment with a capacity of 165 people, you'll notice some of the antique decor. Many of the items have a story behind it.

"You'll see two snowmobiles up there," said Ploetz. "There's some pictures of me riding the Harley Davidson snowmobile and the Articat Panther. There's a lot of neat history of stuff that I grew up with."

There's a shelf behind the bar showing off an impressive display of awards earned by their wines and spirits.

Of course you can't have wine without cheese. In the fridge you'll find a cheese created by Dupont Cheese in Marion.

It's made with the Black Cherry Pinot Noir from Duck Creek Winery.

They grow about 350 vines right behind their building and about 250 more three miles south of there.

They provide three different grape varieties so you can have your pick of sweet wine, dry wine, or something in between.

They're hosting an upcoming comedy event on March 31st.

It starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are still for sale and going fast. Click here to grab some.
