Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade canceled due to COVID-19

APPLETON, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The 2020 Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade has been canceled due to COVID-19.

According to the Downtown Appleton Christmas Parade Facebook page, Santa Claus is still coming to town.

Starting November 24th, Santa's float and the Appleton Police and Fire Departments will visit a different section of the city every Tuesday from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Santa will visit these areas of Appleton on the following dates:

  • November 24 - East
  • December 1 - Southeast
  • December 8 - West
  • December 15 - Southwest
  • December 22 - North

Santa is asking residents to continue practicing COVID-19 safety precautions.

You're encouraged to watch from inside your homes. If you watch from a public location of from your yard, please gather in groups of 10 or less.

The City of Appleton Parade Committee is also encouraging Appleton residents and business owners to decorate their homes and storefronts.

The "Hope for the Holidays" decoration contest runs between November 24th and December 8th.

Participants can register and vote for their favorite homes and businesses here.

Winners will be announced December 22nd.
