DOOR CO., Wis. (NBC 26) -- There are a lot of questions when it comes to what summer might look like this year, but many places in Door County are ready to welcome visitors back.

Jon Jarosh with Destination Door County said business is up a bit, and there are people visiting Door County already. He said they are expecting and preparing for a busy summer so they're ready if it is.

"We've already heard from visitors who have been up here in the last week or two that said they had a planned trip to go somewhere else, maybe they had to fly to, and they opted not to do that trip, and they came up here instead. I think all of Wisconsin is probably going to see those sorts of decisions being made by travelers to stick a little closer to home. We're happy that Door County is close by and ready to welcome visitors," said Jarosh.

Jarosh added that many businesses in Door County are open and taking extra precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy.

The Edgewater Resort in Ephraim is one of those places. General manager Patrick Perkins said they're taking extra steps for staff and guests. He added that people are extending their trips once they see how many places are open and feel comfortable enough to stay longer.

"A lot of people are coming up day of because they're not sure what's open here in Door County. They come up and see the restaurants are open, the shops are open, the tasting rooms are open, and then they decide they'd like to stay," said Perkins.

He said some people are making reservations just a day in advance or turning day trips into overnight trips once they're in town. Perkins said there have been a lot of cancellations, but they've been able to fill many of those cancellations. He said the numbers might not be what they were last year, but he still thinks they will be able to fill spots well. Perkins said this past weekend was busy like a summer weekend.
