GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- Local organizations like St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay, Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay, and Greater Green Bay Habitat for Humanity ReStore are accepting donations.
Jody Kasten, the director of operations with St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay, said spring is typically a busy donation season and knowing people have had more time at home, she's expecting people had more time to clean out closets and cupboards and that they will see more donations now.
"If we were to continue to get the level, even that we got yesterday on a rainy day, and we're anticipating even more tomorrow, Wednesday, we would be bottle-necked if we did not have the opportunity to open the store and sell it," added Kasten.
St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay began accepting donations on Monday. Kasten said at one point, they had nearly 25 cars lined up to donate. Donations are able to be dropped off during specific times at the warehouse near the east side of St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay at 920 Vanderbraak Street. Donations can be dropped off Wednesday, May 20 and Friday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Kasten said they have a system in place for contact-less donations.
Kasten also said the store is expected to open on Tuesday, May 26. She said to keep people healthy and safe with donations, they are leaving the donated items in the warehouse for a period of time, per CDC guidelines. St. Vincent de Paul Green Bay is asking people only bring donations to the warehouse during the specific hours of donating. They also have protocol in place for the thrift store like asking customers to wear masks, having staff wear masks, social distancing markers on the floors, and other common measures in place for stores.
The Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay is also accepting donations on Wednesday, May 20 and Friday, May 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store is set to open May 27 on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Saturdays from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm through June. They're also asking for volunteers to help. For more information, CLICK HERE.
