GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A dog found tied to a Green Bay fire hydrant is now in the care of the Wisconsin Humane Society. A photo of the dog, named "Baby Girl", went viral on Facebook this week.

On Thursday, the Wisconsin Humane Society issued a statement on their Facebook page addressing the owner of the dog directly.

"First and foremost, we are so sorry you had to part with your best friend. It’s evident just how much you loved her and we can see you did your best while struggling with your own medical complications and challenges of life," the Wisconsin Humane Society wrote on Facebook.

In addition to being tied to the hydrant, a backpack of Baby Girl's favorite things was found next to her, WHS said. A note was also left with the dog, asking for someone to take care of her.

"We see your love in the way you secured her leash so she wouldn’t get hit by a car. We see your love in the way you placed her in the middle of a neighborhood where she’d be quickly found. We see your love in how happy and healthy Baby Girl looks. And we see your love in the note you left, pleading for someone to help her when you no longer could," the Wisconsin Humane Society wrote.

WHS said they would never let fees be a barrier and the organization welcomes anonymous surrenders. WHS assured the former owner of Baby Girl that she's safe, she’s getting tons of attention from the WHS team, and she’s on track to finding her next loving family very soon.

"We wish you all the best and hope that if you see this, you can rest a little easier knowing your Baby Girl has a bright future ahead," WHS wrote.

WHS said Baby Girl is serving her mandatory stray hold and "is doing great."
