ELKHART LAKE (NBC 26) — Kevin and Deb Kirsch make a great team.
“I like working with the animals," said Deb. "That’s maybe not what Kevin likes to do, so we have a good compromise. He works with the field and crops and repairs, and I work with the animals.“
At Devin Acres, farming has always come naturally.
“It’s been in the family for about 149 years now," said Kevin. "And I guess we’re just proud to see that happen.“
“It’s just something in my blood I guess," said Deb. "Because I’m pretty much up at three in the morning, and you go pretty much until six or seven at night, but it’s got to be in your blood.“
Hosting breakfast on the farm for the second time, the Sheboygan County Dairy Promotion Association has some fun and educational activities planned for families on Saturday; there will be the usual petting zoo, wagon farm tours, eggs pancakes and cheese tasting, as well as a professional cheese carver and more educational ag stations, including "Addie" the Cow, the life-size, fiberglass milk cow that milks moos and wears bells and flowers.
“A lot of the parents come with, and we’re educating them just as much as were educating young young kids," said Deb. "They come home with something they learned that they didn’t know in the past.“
Working on a farm, you learn something new every day.
“Teach people, I guess, that’s my biggest thing, is teaching people," said Kevin. "They don’t have to farm to take that. There’s just so many things we do here on the farm. Between plumbing, electrical, taking care of cattle‘s number one of course, but everything else can follow that.“
Sheboygan County's Breakfast on the Farm will go from 7 a.m. to noon this Saturday. Devin Acres is located at west 3844 Primrose Lane in Elkhart Lake. Tickets are $8 dollars for adults, $3 for kids ages three to seven and free for those under two. You can by tickets in advance online or on the day of at the farm.
