APPLETON — Appleton Police are investigating a threatening phone call at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center. The department says it did not locate any threats in or around the hospital.

"The hospital has been cleared," said Lt. Meghan Cash, the department's public information officer. "There's no threats in any of the clinics that we've located in Appleton here."

Police say an unknown caller told the hospital they were "in the parking lot" and "planned to create an imminent threat with a weapon," including an AR-15.

Officers responded to the call around 12:30 p.m. and secured the entrances to the buildings.

"We did not find anybody with a gun, a weapon, or anything, as described in the call," Cash said.

Cash also said several other jurisdictions in northeast Wisconsin have responded to similar calls Friday afternoon, with similar threats.

"Any sort of threat coming into our community is something that we're going to take seriously, and until we can prove otherwise, it's going to be taken as a threat to our community," Cash said.

Police are investigating the origin of the call.

A few Appleton police units remained at the scene as of 2:30 p.m. Friday.
