SURING (NBC 26) -- Two deputies involved in a shooting, as well as a man who died at the scene, have now been identified by state authorities.
As previously reported, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation says the shooting happened about 7 p.m. on May 17 in the Suring area.
The Oconto County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home after receiving reports that a person with felony warrants was there, according to the DCI.
“After receiving consent to search the residence, law enforcement found the subject in possession of a firearm. During the incident deputies deployed deadly force with their firearms, striking the subject,” a DCI statement said.
The person died at the scene. On Wednesday, DCI identified the person as 26-year-old Jacob W. Bubb of Suring. Oconto County Sheriff’s Deputy Kevin Christensen and Oconto County Sheriff’s Sergeant Ben Schindel have been identified as the two deputies who discharged their firearms.
No one else was hurt at the scene, DCI says. The two deputies have been placed on administrative duty, per department policy.
DCI continues to investigate and will turn over its report to the Oconto County District Attorney when the investigation concludes.
