'Cruise for Cancer' took off for its 19th year in Green Bay on Sunday, hosted by Vandervest Harley-Davidson.
The event began with the annual parade throughout the streets. Motorcycle riders, families and Green Bay officials marched on, all in support of cancer victims. It ended with a Tailgate Party in the parking lot featuring a live and silent auction, food and games.
It all started with Jerry Parins, a retired Green Bay police officer and Packers security member. Parins was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2003. Through his love of motorcycles, Vandervest and the Parins family teamed up. It's become a community event everyone looks forward to every year.
"I get emotional every year going on the ride." Dixie Kinnard said, one member of the Vandervest family. "You know, everyone coming together for those that are battling cancer. It's just about community and showing our support."
In almost two decades, the event has raised over $2 million in funds for area cancer research.
