Crews were on the scene of a Brown County barn fire in the Lawrence area Monday night. Clean-up from the fire began Tuesday morning.
The scene was along the 2900 block of Lawrence Drive. Lawrence Drive was closed while crews were fighting the fire, but the road has since been reopened.
The couple who owns the barn, a husband and wife, said they were in their home next to the barn and didn't immediately notice the fire. Jim and Ida VanGheem said they were in the house watching TV when the fire broke out. A firefighter from Wrightstown who happened to be traveling to Lawrence for training spotted the fire and got help.
The couple said some of their equipment was damaged in the barn fire, but no animals were hurt. Firefighters were able to put it out after about three hours.
The couple also expressed gratitude that the fire didn't destroy their house. Firefighters managed to stop the flames within feet of the couple's home.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
