WISCONSIN — You get to use your own creativity this year and create your own polar plunge to raise money for Special Olympics athletes of Wisconsin.

In years past, people have come together and done a polar plunge into Lake Michigan or community pools. This year, however, things are going to happen a little differently thanks to the coronavirus pandemic.

Those who want to show their support for the Special Olympics athletes can create their own plunge either at home or at specific locations across the state.

If you would like to take part in an in-person event, you can head to one of eight events this year that include sledding, tubing, and snowshoeing.

For dates and locations of these events, click here.

You can also choose to take part in the polar plunge from the safety of your own home. All you have to do is get really cold and snap a picture or take a video.

You can choose to get into a bathtub full of ice water, make snow angels in your swimsuit, have a winter water balloon fight, or whatever else you can come up with. Get creative!

If you choose to take part at home, you can purchase the "Chillin at Home" package which is stocked with things you may need to warm yourself up afterward.

The packages include a camping mug, toasty hot chocolate mix, festive cookie cutter, Chilly Bear’s Secret Sugar Cookie Recipe, and more. The packages can be purchased here.

The polar plunge has been around since 1999 and has raised over $20 million for Special Olympics athletes.
