SHAWANO COUNTY (NBC 26) — A 13-year-old was one of two people who died after a crash Saturday afternoon near the town of Hartland. Two other people were hospitalized.
The Shawano County Sheriff's Office said deputies witnessed a crash involving a pickup truck, minivan, and a motorcycle on Hwy 47 near Highline Road at around noon Saturday.
The Sheriff's Office said a pickup truck was heading southbound when a motorcycle hit the rear of the pickup truck, causing the motorcycle to cross into northbound traffic and was then struck by a minivan.
A 36-year-old Appleton man, later identified as Adam Jason Brown, was driving the motorcycle and had a 13-year-old Appleton boy with him. The Sheriff's Office said when law enforcement arrived at the scene, both the driver and passenger of the motorcycle were dead.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the van was driven by a 71-year-old Shawano man and a 64-year-old Shawano woman was a passenger; both of them were taken to hospitals with serious injuries. The pickup truck was occupied by a 65-year-old man and a 64-year-old woman, both from Black Creek; both were uninjured.
Hwy 47 was closed to traffic for several hours while law enforcement investigated the crash. Alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash, based on a report from Wisconsin State Patrol.
The Shawano County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Bonduel Fire, Bonduel EMS, Navarino Lessor Fire, Shawano Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, Shawano County Coroner, and the Shawano County Highway Department.
