DE PERE (WGBA) -- Ginger Pigeon and Brenen Burningham had plans to get married on May 1st. They were going to have a ceremony followed by a reception at the Riverside Ballroom. However, COVID-19 forced those businesses to temporarily close.
"It sucks when you plan so much and can't have it happen," Pigeon said.
Spring was always there intended season to get married. The couple said the weather in May is best for weddings. They decided to go through with a ceremony. However, the only allowed a small group of friends and family to attend. All had to stay 6 feet apart from each other.
"It was interesting seeing everyone so spread out," Burningham said.
They started their day taking photos and went to St. James Park in Green Bay for a ceremony. Gov. Evers recent order allowed people to have wedding gathering while maintaining social distancing. The couple was also able to obtain a marriage certificate.
"Our cousin is a lawyer and we obtained the marriage documents a couple days ago," Pigeon said. "And now we turned it in. We are married."
The couple still plans to hold a ceremony and reception surrounded by many friends and family. That is scheduled to take place in August. They hope COVID-19 doesn't ruin those plans too.
