BROWN COUNTY, Wis. — Convicted killer George Burch is appealing court orders to pay restitution to the victim's family.
Burch was convicted of killing Nicole VanderHeyden and dumping her body in a Bellevue farm field in 2016. Burch was sentenced to life in prison with no chance of parole in 2018.
According to a previous report back in January, Nicole VanderHeyden's boyfriend, Douglas Detrie, requested nearly $350,000 in restitution from Burch.
Court records indicate Burch was ordered to pay more than $14,000 in restitution to the VanderHeyden family. Burch's lawyer argued he would not be able to pay because he receives about $8 a month in prison.
According to court documents filed Tuesday, Burch's legal counsel argues that his "financial circumstances" have not "materially improved".
