Confirmed coronavirus case in Brown Co.

BROWN CO. (NBC 26) -- According to health officials, a positive case of coronavirus was confirmed in Brown County Wednesday afternoon.

Oneida Community Health, De Pere Public Health and Brown Co. Public Health all confirmed the first positive case of coronavirus in Brown County.

The individual had traveled domestically, returning home March 9. They started experiencing symptoms and was tested on March 12. Testing results came back positive March 18.

Ted Shove with Brown Co. Health said the individual is in their mid-50's and living alone under self-quarantine currently. Shove says the individual is not believed to be employed.

“We have been jointly preparing and anticipating a confirmed case in Brown County. We will work closely with Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) to ensure we are taking the appropriate next steps to ensure our community is safe and well,” said Ann Steinberger, acting Brown County Public Health Officer.

Michelle Myers, Interim Public Health Officer for Oneida Community Health Services, reiterated how crucial it is to practice social distancing. She says it is up to everyone in the community to help stop the spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus) by being responsible and monitoring our own health to be able to act accordingly.
