APPLETON (NBC 26) -- Nearly 900 people were fed a home-cooked meal Monday in Appleton.
It's called Community Christmas. Homeless, low income, and veteran families were able to sit back with others in the community and celebrate the holidays.
Families filled the room at the Grand Meridian, from babies just weeks old to seniors enjoying the kindness the community has shown making this event possible.
People donated things like gift cards, pajamas, and books. Families were able to go through and pick out gifts to take home. People at the event said they with were grateful for the support of their community.
"I think it's pretty special that all these people took their time to put this all together for us, you know,” said Christy Dins. “To make people have a little better of a Christmas, to make things a little brighter when maybe they don't have a lot of family."
Children were able to get their pictures taken with Santa Claus and then pick out some gifts to take home with them.
Children were leaving with great big smiles carrying out the new things they got Monday while parents were thankful for the kindness of our community.
