GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Swimming may not be the first thing people think of in March, but it's top of mind for the city of Green Bay.
The city is looking to hire about 40 lifeguards for the 2022 summer season.
"Our lifeguard position is really the one we are targeting to get applicants to apply and interview sooner rather than later," said Ann Moeller, Green Bay Parks, Recreation & Forestry recreation supervisor.

A staffing shortage last year delayed the opening of Colburn Pool and forced the city to keep Joannes Aquatic Center closed. It was a nationwide problem that affected many areas across Wisconsin, including Milwaukee County.
Moeller hopes new incentives will draw the right number of people in for the job and keep all three of Green Bay's pools open this year.
The city is offering up to $350 in bonuses for any full-time lifeguard if certain requirements are met. New lifeguards can take free lifeguard certification classes through the city, which typically cost between $100 and $250. The city will also provide free uniforms.
"I am hoping that all three of our facilities are fully staffed, and we can provide our community with all the aquatic opportunities that we have and just have a really nice, fun summer.
Pay begins at $12.37 an hour and goes up to $13.19 an hour.
Interested applicants can apply online. There are also open interview for lifeguard positions from 1 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. every Thursday at city hall.
