GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — A beautiful Christmas display is back in Downtown Green Bay.
The Ribbon of Hope Foundation is continuing its tradition with its annual Christmas Wreath Jubilee.
It is a display of beautiful Christmas wreaths on the windows at 301 N. Washington Street in Downtown Green Bay. That’s the former location of the Children's Museum.
The event is put on by the Ribbon of Hope Foundation that helps those in our local community undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
With more than 75 holiday wreaths donated by 40 sponsors, including local businesses, families and individuals in the community, organizers say this event is more than just a fundraiser for those undergoing treatments for breast cancer.
Wreaths decorated will be later delivered to those patients around the community who need some extra Christmas cheer.
"We have 81 wreaths here, they're ll down here so everyone in the community can come out and enjoy them, look at them take a walk at night with their families. And then in early December they will get delivered to recipients who are all going through cancer treatments," said Vicki Haworth, Christmas Wreath Jubilee Co-chair and Ribbon of Hope Board Member
Wreaths will be lit at dusk everyday and stay on until 1:00 AM.
The display will be held until Wednesday, December 1.
“It’s really the most fun part of the event when we get to deliver. You see those people that get something they weren’t expecting, they have no idea what its going to be, its a surprise and they get to have something. Maybe they don’t have the time or the energy to decorate this year and this is something they can have," Haworth said.
She shares with the important meaning of one particular wreath.
“This one is really special and its actually themed very much towards everything Ribbon of Hope stands for. It’s pink which is obviously the breast cancer awareness ribbon color and the ribbon of hope logo has a pig on it, so this wreath is really cool,” Haworth said.
Since the foundation’s inception in 2003 they say they’ve granted over 3.6 million dollars into our local community.
And you can help too, $.97 out of every dollar donated goes directly to aid recipients.
"Anybody that wants to give back when they're down here looking at wreaths displays we do have QR codes on site so they can actually scan them through the windows and donate that way or you can go to RibbonofHope.com and donate that way,“ Haworth said.
