GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — The Brown County Historical Society is giving a glimpse at Christmas trends of the past. Christmas Through the Decades at the Hazelwood Historic House shows what Christmas looked like in various time periods, with a different room dedicated to each period.
Visitors can take a tour of historic Christmas trends from the Victorian era of the late 1800s, to the early 1900s during World War I, to the mid-century fifties and sixties.
Each room is filled with real artifacts from each period, many of which were donated by community members, while other items are recreations of traditional holiday decor.
Executive director Chris Dunbar says many visitors are surprised by the Christmas traditions of the past and many often share their own stories of their family holiday traditions.
“The wonderful thing is people tend to want to tell us or tell the other people in the room what their Christmas traditions were and we ask that and we encourage that,” Dunbar said.
The Christmas Through the Decades tours will take place from 3 p.m to 7 p.m Friday and from 12 p.m to 5 p.m Saturday. Reservations are required to maintain the number of people walking through at a time. To register for the event, click here.
