CHIPPEWA FALLS (NBC 26) — UPDATE: Chippewa Falls police confirmed a 10-year-old girl, who had been missing since Sunday, was found dead along a hiking trail in a wooded area on Monday. Due to revelations learned during court proceedings and the extreme sensitivity of this case, NBC 26 has made the editorial decision not to name or show pictures of the victim.

The Chief of the Chippewa Falls Police Department, Matthew Kelm, said during a news briefing that the incident is considered a homicide. No one is in custody.

The Chippewa Falls Police Department is searching for a missing 10-year-old girl last seen Sunday.

Police said the department got a call Sunday night from the father of the girl, saying she hadn't returned from a visit to her aunt. She had last been seen by family members in the evening. Police and family searched the area and contacted family and friends, but couldn't find her.

After dark, police said a bike believed to belong to the girl was found a short distance from her aunt's house near a walking trail.

Multiple agencies were contacted to help with the search for the girl. K9 teams and a drone were used in the search. Authorities also went door-to-door. Police contacted the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and said at this point, the incident doesn't meet the criteria for an Amber Alert.

She was last known to be wearing a purple 1/4 zip long sleeve shirt with black stretch pants and gray shoes.
