MILWAUKEE (NBC 26) — Children's Hospital of Wisconsin says two more children injured at the Waukesha Christmas parade tragedy have been released and are recovering at home. They were discharged on Dec. 2, the hospital says.
Three other children remain in the hospital in fair condition. The hospital says the children continue their care and rehabilitation at Children’s Wisconsin Hospital-Milwaukee.
Later this week, Children’s Wisconsin says staff will be offered blue light bracelets as a symbol of healing and hope. They align with the City of Waukesha’s current “unite with a blue light” effort, which asks everyone to light a blue light outside their home and to keep it on through the holidays. Children’s Wisconsin Hospital-Milwaukee is also lit blue this month.
The facility originally received 16 patients after the driver of a red SUV roared through the parade in Waukesha, killing six people and injuring more than 60.
Darrell Brooks Jr. is accused of speeding away from police and entering the parade, refusing to stop even as an officer banged on the hood of his SUV.
Five adults and one child were killed in the crash.
