Child seriously injured in boating incident on Lake Winnebago

FOND DU LAC COUNTY, Wis. (NBC 26) — An 11-year-old boy was seriously injured by a boat propeller on Lake Winnebago Sunday.

First responders with the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office, Mt. Calvary Ambulance, and the Town of Calumet responded to the Columbia Park boat landing around noon Sunday, for a reports that a boy's legs were hurt by a propeller.

The child was attempting to climb into the boat after tubing on Lake Winnebago, when he fell off the ladder and onto the propeller of the boat.

The boy's uncle, a 30 year old man from New Holstein was on the boat at the time, along with 4 of his children.

One of the children from the boat realized the boy needed help, so she, along with another person from a nearby boat, jumped into the water to help the boy. They were able to get him into the boat, called for medical help, and drove him to the Columbia Park boat landing.

The child was flown to Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee by Theda-Star medical helicopter with serious injuries
