KIMBERLY (NBC 26) — Meet a young woman who knew from a young age she was going to do big things. This story is a part of our Celebrating Volunteers series with the Community Foundation for the Fox Valley Region.

"I knew right away I was going to join as a freshman," said Kimberly-native Justice Moore.

Moore is a go-getting young woman whose high school passion was to be a part of Key Club. It's a volunteer organization turning students into leaders.

"Not many run for District Board right away," she said. "I did that and loved it, so I kept going with it."

Climbing the leadership ladder, Moore took on several responsibilities in the club, as she got the opportunity to travel around the U.S.

"I think my favorite event was District Board meetings. We'd all sit in a conference room for hours, planning events, trying to think of ways to get closer connected with members."

Because of her hard-work and dedication to the club, Justice won the 2020 Youth Scholarship Award. It's a big honor for her work to make our community a better place.

"I was driving to class, I parked my car in the parking lot and was going through my emails," Justice said. "I was super surprised at first; I called my mom before I went into the building."

Justice is now about to start her second semester at UW-Madison. She's double-majoring in Spanish and English on the pre-law track.

While it's only been a year since she's been out of high school, Justice hopes other kids in school won't be afraid to take those big chances as well to help make change.

"Just be open-minded; try new things; get out of your comfort zones."

Along with the $1,500 scholarship from Community First Credit Union, Justice was awarded $1,000 to donate to a charity of her choice. She decided to give the money to the Darboy Kiwanis Club which helps fund Kimberly's Key Club.

If you know of a high school senior who has a passion for volunteering, nominate them for this year's awards. Nominations close Friday, February 5.
