GREEN BAY (NBC 26) -- Cassie Nygren, the daughter of Marinette lawmaker John Nygren, was sentenced Thursday to 13 years in prison and 17 years extended supervision on drug charges, including supplying the drugs that led to the fatal overdose of a pregnant woman.

Court records show Jennifer Skeen was nearly six months pregnant when she overdosed on drugs supplied by Nygren and Shawn Gray. Nygren was emotional in the courtroom Thursday.

"I have a 3-year-old son […] whom is my heart and motivation,” Nygren said in court. “I want nothing more in life than to be a good mother to him, so something has to change. Change has to happen, because good moms don't do drugs and good moms don't go to jail."

Nygren has already served more than 800 days in jail. One of Nygren’s co-defendants, Shawn Gray, was sentenced to 12 years in June for his role in Skeen’s death.
