ASHWAUBENON (NBC 26) — Bernie Erickson, former Brown County Supervisor, is an Army veteran, his father was in the Marines, and his uncle was in the Air Force.
“Quite an honor," he said. "And looking back at the family, we’ve got a long tradition.“
After the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena was torn down a few years ago, the Resch Expo was built on its site.
“It has an appearance of a large building," said Erickson. "If you walk into it, it’s breathtaking how large it is if you actually look at the total facility with all the walls open.“
Erickson wanted to make sure local vets were still being honored.
“I was very adamant about keeping the veterans name alive and aware to all people," he said. "I wanted to make sure that everyone that walked into this facility recognize that as a memorial to all veterans.“
He and other supervisors worked to put together a ‘multimedia living memorial,' which was revealed Monday. It will honor all of the men and women in our community who served, said Erickson.
“It all goes back to those who served and who are serving," he said. "And you should always thank them, always honor them and just remember, America is free because of all the people in the military.“
The unveiling will be at 10 a.m. inside the Expo. There will also be a livestream of the ceremony on the Brown County Veterans Service Office Facebook page. From then on, anyone who comes inside will be able to look at it.
