BROWN COUNTY (NBC 26) — The Brown County United Way announced they have awarded five new financial grants to local nonprofits that are working to assist people adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, they said grants have been awarded to the following organizations:
Big Brothers Big Sisters for the purchase of laptop computers to help them in serving their community.
Friends of the Brown County Library for the purchase of two keyless charging lockers that will enable patrons to charge phones and devices securely without needing to remain in the library and risk increased exposure to COVID-19.
PFLAG Green Bay/Brown County to assist the LGBTQ community with rental assistance, food/meals and transportation.
Wise Women Gathering Place for the purchase of on-site safety monitors in the organization’s parking lot as well as essentials for people who are homeless. In June Wise Women Gathering Place launched a Safe Parking Program in response to COVID-19 by providing a place for people who live in their cars to have a safe place to park, connect with resources and be supplied with snacks, gas cards and items to support living in a vehicle.
Young Life Green Bay to provide increased hours for a staffed facility for students in this time of virtual learning. Funding is being used for basic needs to help student learn such as internet, lunch, academic help and encouragement.
Since establishing the fund in March 2020, Brown County United Way says they have raised $324,000 for COVID-19 and other emergency relief efforts. They also say, a total of $313,246 has been awarded through 44 grants to 37 agencies.
