BROWN COUNTY, Wis (NBC 26) -- After severe flooding in Northeast Wisconsin just last spring, Brown County leaders are trying to help citizens address the problem by launching a brand new website.

In 2019, the sight of flooded roadways, overflowing rivers, and even wet basements, became common place across Brown County.

"Right now all of the infrastructure is being tested. It's being pushed beyond the limits," says Paul Fontecchio, the Director of the Brown County Public Works Department.

With the potential of another season of flooding right around the corner, Brown County leaders are asking residents to prepare now.

"People in Florida, they don't wait for the government to come and board up their windows, they do it themselves. That's the big thing, being responsible for you and your family, as much as you can," adds Fontecchio.

On Monday, Brown County leaders launched a brand new website called floodinginbc.com. The sight looks to address the growing concern that parts of Brown County could flood again.

"Make a plan, stay informed, and be prepared," says Lauri Maki, the Brown County Emergency Management Director.

Maki says their new website will show residents where they can look into getting flood insurance, how to find out how to be ready to evacuate from their homes, and even discover if there are any road closures due to another flood that has arrived. All issues that Green Bay’s Mayor Eric Genrich says are addressed online for the public’s consideration.

"We have lake levels on Lake Michigan headed for record highs unfortunately and depending on how things play out with the spring thaw, we could see some flood waters arriving in Green Bay and Brown County."

This is one way county leaders are attempting to inform citizens that 2019's flooding will likely not be our last.

"Mother Nature is unpredictable, so that's why we emphasize to prepare as much as possible," adds Maki.
