KEWAUNEE (NBC 26) — This Father’s Day, families were able to celebrate June Dairy Month at this year’s Kewaunee County Breakfast on the Farm event.
Put on by the Kewaunee County Promotional Committee and hosted on the Augustian family farm, this event was meant for families to enjoy a Sunday full of fun, great food, and quality time.
“So we do draw a lot of people that are removed from agriculture from in the cities of the surrounding communities and they come out and I think they’re really surprised by things we do and technologies we use on the farm. They go on the tours through the barns and see how good the cows are cared for and what we do on the land to help protect our waters here,” said Aaron Augustian, Co-Owner of Augustian Farms.
Augustian said this event has been going on for about 30 years and each year a different family gets to host the event on their farm.
He says there’s a lot of preparation that goes into the planning of the event which is why they choose which farm will be hosting the event three years in advance.
“We knew three years ago we were going to do Breakfast on the Farm, so this field was in rotation to be in hay. We kept in alfalfa and grass so we could have parking. Then a couple of shots of rain after this, in about a week you’ll never tell there was anybody out here,” Augustian said.
He said this event really gives people an inside look at what it’s like at your local farm.
Families got to enjoy tours around the farm and ride on horse-and-tractor-drawn wagons. They also had live music, a petting zoo, and all sorts of games for everyone of all ages to enjoy.
