GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — BRAs of the Bay is a local effort to support a national campaign, BRA Day, which is designed to raise awareness of breast reconstruction rights for breast cancer patients.
Federal law mandates coverage of breast reconstruction for all breast cancer patients, even if the reconstruction is delayed until after treatment for cancer. The event tonight at 6 p.m. at Badger State Brewing is designed to help women understand their rights under the law.
Seeking some positive energy, BayCare Clinic created a contest to coincide with the awareness campaign. Green Bay-area individuals and businesses have decorated and will display a bra at the event. The public has been voting online for their favorite bra, and category winners will be announced tonight. 80 percent of proceeds raised will go to Ribbon of Hope, an organization that is a financial, informational and emotional resource for breast cancer patients in northeastern Wisconsin. 20 percent will go to the Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day USA organization.
