DE PERE (NBC 26) — The Boys & Girls Club of Door County is mourning the loss of its CEO, Eric Blumreich. In a statement on Facebook, the Club announced that Blumreich passed away unexpectedly from natural causes early Tuesday morning.

Blumreich began his role as CEO less than a month ago on January 4th.

“Our board and staff were uplifted and encouraged by his enthusiasm and vision for the future of our Club and his presence and tireless energy will be sorely missed,” the statement reads in part.

Before working at the Boys & Girls Club, Blumreich worked in the Advancement Office at St. Norbert College in De Pere. He began working at St. Norbert in 2016 where he worked with donors to raise funds for the college. He also took on several roles in other parts of the college, such as being a process advisor for the student conduct system. He also completed his MBA at St. Norbert.

Brian Bruess, the President of St. Norbert College, says he was able to interact just as naturally with a donor as he was with students.

“He’s one of those folks you meet in life who really does care for the common good which is why we were so sad to see him leave to the Boys & Girls Club in Door County because he wanted to have an even bigger impact,” Bruess said.

Bruess says Blumreich had a passion for caring for young people, even going out of his way to help out students in times of need.

“At one point in time he and his wife even hosted a student in their house, just willing to make those kinds of contributions and support for the people around him and the care for the community,” Bruess said.

That kindness and selfless nature is something that Bruess says will be dearly missed by the St. Norbert community and all those who knew him.

“He was always thinking about the other much more than he was himself," Bruess said. "We mourn his loss and soon we’ll certainly celebrate his life because it was such a beautiful life and he gave so much to the college and every body he interacted with.”
