MANITOWOC COUNTY (NBC 26) — Hypothermia may be a factor in the death of a Keshena man whose body was found in a wooded area in Manitowoc County.
The Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office said Monday the body of 42-year-old Kurt Pocan Sr. was found in late January in a wooded area, way off the roadway, in the town of Cato.
The sheriff's office said Pocan was driving a stolen vehicle belonging to a family member in late December 2021.
On December 29, the sheriff's office was notified of an unoccupied disabled vehicle on Grimms Road south of Highway 10. The sheriff's office said deputies checked the surrounding area and didn't find the driver. According to the sheriff's office, the ignition key was in the on position, and officials believe the vehicle ran out of gas.
The sheriff's office said the vehicle was located about 1/2 mile from where Pocan was found.
Autopsy results are pending and the sheriff's office says hypothermia is believed to be a factor in Pocan's death. The case is still under investigation.
