WISCONSIN (NBC 26) — Day 15 of the 2021 sturgeon spearing season had beautiful spring-like Wisconsin weather and, according to the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR), spearers were taking to the ice and leaving their winter jackets at home - a rarity at this time of the year.

The DNR said despite the warm weather, lake access points remained in decent shape with clear water making for favorable spearing conditions. However, as a reminder to spearers, make sure to check with local fishing clubs for updates on ice conditions.

The DNR said the second to last day of this years sturgeon spearing season followed this week's trend as a total of 44 fish were speared. Today's harvest consisted of 9 juvenile females, 24 adult females, and 11 males.

There was a three-way tie between Stockbridge Harbor, Harrison Town Hall and Blackwolf Landing registration stations for the most fish registered today at nine each. The DNR said the Stockbridge Harbor registration station still leads the lake in most fish register this season at a total of 294.

Winnebago System harvest totals have risen to 282 juvenile females, 720 adult females, and 779 males for a system-wide total of 1,781 fish.

The DNR wishes good luck to spearers who are heading out Sunday for the final day of this year's season in the hopes of harvesting their trophy!
