GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- The 28th annual Back to School Store will look different this year. The Service League of Green Bay, a local nonprofit, organizes the event each year with the goal of providing school supplies to the children who need it most.
This year, unfortunately due to the coronavirus pandemic there will not be an in-person Back to School shopping day. "The energy the day of the Back to School Store is electric and the kids are so excited and we will miss it too, but we have to be flexiable," said Anna Burnette, the Back to School Co-Chair with the Service League of Green Bay.
The day is made possible by several donations from local companies and sponsors and more than 800 volunteers that go through the store with the children. This year they will just be using members and a very small group of volunteers to pack three thousand backpacks that will then go to agencies who will then distribute them.
There are still several ways the community can get involved. The Service League of Green Bay has created an Amazon Wishlist so people can safely order items and they will be shipped to them. If you visit their website you will also find a donate tab where you can donate financially and they will be collecting brand new school supplies for two days at Celebration Church at 3475 Humboldt Road in Green Bay from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 29th and 30th. Items can also be dropped of at Core Insuranceat 2945 Shawano Avenue in Green Bay by July 29th.
