BRILLION (NBC 26) — While many parents still have some time to shop for pencils, notebooks and all the supplies, it’s back-to-school for Brillion Monday.
“The smiling faces," said Corey Baumgartner Brillion Public Schools Superintendent. "It was just so great to see from our 4k through our sixth graders coming in here with a genuine excitement of being ready for school, and the question that I asked them: "Are you ready for school?" And the answer was resoundingly "yes." That's energizing by itself, but it brings a different energy to the building for our staff, as we're greeting students and see families. It's just a social connection.”
Masks are optional for all students inside buildings, but they are required while students are riding buses. Seats will also be assigned on buses for contact tracing purposes. Brillion is also offering an online option for families who are not comfortable sending their children to school in-person.
“We've been having some families, I was just working on registering someone this morning, taking advantage of that," said Baumgartner. "They still remain Brillion Public School students, they're connected to us, but we help advance their learning too. So it's a choice, and some people made those choices even last year. If they did leave a particular school and went to another one because of a mask choice, that's something they're afforded to do, and we respect that."
Brillion will be keeping the same mitigation practices, having the same cleaning schedules, hand sanitizing and social distancing from last school year. Brillion is fully staffed, from a teacher standpoint, said Baumgartner.
