GREEN BAY, Wis. (NBC 26) -- In Packerland, locals like Thomas Platt aren't focused on the football field this July.
"It'll be a huge win for Wisconsin," Platt said. "Basically, it's almost like when the Packers do their thing, Green Bay is excited about that. And I feel real excited that the Bucks might pull this off after 50 years."
The Milwaukee Bucks are in the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly five decades. As a Green Bay resident, Platt says he's more excited about the team than ever before.
"It's a good thing for not only Wisconsin, but to bring back the spirit of basketball as a whole for Wisconsin," he said.
Platt is a fan himself, but he believes a Bucks championship will create more basketball followers across the state.
"I'm kind of salty that you didn't catch me with my Bucks jersey on," Platt said.
As a Packers fanatic, Logan Dycus says his eyes have been glued to the court during Milwaukee's playoff run.
"The Bucks were bad for the longest time," the Suamico resident said. "And now they got Giannis [Antetokounmpo] and all these other stars. I think it's awesome."
Before now, Dycus says a lack of success since 1971, when Milwaukee won its only title, has diminished Bucks fandom in Northeast Wisconsin.
"It's awesome for the state of Wisconsin, especially if we can win the finals," Dycus said. "That'll be awesome. Milwaukee will go crazy."
While he says it'll be a challenge, Platt thinks the Bucks have what it takes to bring a title back to the Cream City.
"Somebody has to be hungry and snatch the whole steak," Platt said.
