NEENAH (NBC 26) — On Saturday, Make-A-Wish Wisconsin and Bergstrom Automative partnered up as they aimed to raise money to help grant local children their wishes.

Throughout the day, Bergstrom Automotive locations throughout Green Bay, the Fox Valley and Oshkosh offered free oil changes with every $15 donation.

These children are living in our community battling critical illnesses.

Tim Bergstrom, the Chief Operator Officer for Bergstrom Automative explains about how important these wishes are for children like Ben from Appleton. Watch below:

Make-A-Wish Ben

Ben was diagnosed with Leukemia, he's currently in remission. His father explains his story:

His wish was granted in 2019 when he wished for a synchronized light show in the tune to his favorite songs. Learn more about Ben's wish below:

Make-A-Wish Wisconsin says right now there are at least 500 children across the state that are still waiting for their wishes to be granted. They say that’s their highest number ever.

The Spoor family of Neenah is just one example of how powerful these wishes are.

Tiffany and Lydia Spoor

When 9-year-old Lydia Spoor was born, she was born with a lung gap and a hole in her heart. Her family says she spent her first six months of life in the hospital.

She has had multiple surgeries throughout the years, including bringing her stomach into her chest.

“She wears a feeding tube and it helps her stay hydrated and helps her get the extra nutrition she needs. But she’s one of the bravest kids that I know. She handles every hospital with a smile and she just has a zest for life that is super contagious,” said Tiffany Spoor, Lydia’s mom.

Lydia had her wish granted a few years ago and is one of many examples of how important these wishes are for the children.

Make A Wish

For her wish, she was able to go to Walt Disney World and get to spend time with her favorite characters.
