ASHWAUBENON — While the Ashwaubenon Performing Arts Center isn’t opening up to full capacity, they’re bringing the joy of theater straight into people’s homes this spring.
“We, along with the rest of the world, are eagerly awaiting full venues once again," said Kate Green, Executive Director of the PAC.
While waiting to welcome theater-goers back, the PAC will offer a virtual performance series. Thanks to the George Kress Foundation, anyone can watch the seven performances for free, with the option to leave a donation.
“We’re in the middle of a pandemic," said Green. "We know we can’t have shoulder-to-shoulder seating yet. Some of the shows are great because you’re seeing a behind the scenes look with these performers. It’s part performance, part kind of home video of them talking about how they came to be, what are you doing right now, and it’s a really unique experience.“
The first one last night featured Celtic rock band the Red Hot Chili Pipers. While it's not the same as live theater, the PAC is preparing a full schedule, with full seating, this September, said Green.
“Watching entertainment on TV is wonderful," she said. "But there’s that loss of seeing your friends seeing your neighbors getting together with your families. Being in the moment and enjoying that performance life, and being right there. That’s what’s missed.”
Viewers have two weeks to watch each performance after its uploaded. The performances will run through June 30th. You can find more information on the PAC's web site here.
