GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — For thousands of students, the traditional end to the school year is no longer a time to put down the books.

About 6,000 kids are already enrolled in Green Bay's summer school programs.

"We know many of our kids did really well through the pandemic with virtual learning, but there were some kids that did struggle, as so whether they're on either end, summer is always an important time," extended learning coordinator Lisa Johnson said.

Johnson said summer school offers several benefits. If kids did have a tougher time this year, it's an opportunity to continue their development. Johnson said it's also a great way to continue socializing after a lot of time at home. She said that for parents back at work, summer school offers a great child-care program.
