SHAWANO (NBC 26) — As inflation has continued to surge, many people's pocket books are hurting.

At the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of the Wolf River Region, experts said seniors sometimes face a tough choice.

Do they get a prescription they need, eat a meal or pay a bill?

That's because many seniors are on fixed incomes.

Without much wiggle room in their pockets, many of them are turning for help.

“Everyday. We have numerous call-ins and walk-ins on a routine basis,” said Nicole Korth, Information and Assistant Specialist at the ADRC when asked about how often seniors come by for help.

Korth said many times they’re asking about how they’re going to afford their doctor’s visit.

“If it is things like they’re having a hard time affording medical bills or prescriptions we can look at Medicaid benefits for them. Other programs through the state of Wisconsin like the senior care program that helps with prescription drugs,” Korth said.

She hopes that through her assistance, seniors won't be left to choose between food, bills, or medical necessities.

“Try to talk to them about programs that could help cover the costs of some of those things to free up more of their finances to use for other things that may not have those programs out there to help them with,” Korth said.
