Person of interest in Markesan armed robbery taken into custody

UPDATE: Police now say a person of interest has been taken into custody on a Department of Corrections warrant. Police said no formal charges have been requested with the Green Lake County District Attorney at this time. Police also said the department will not release the person's name until a criminal complaint has been filed in the courts.

MARKESAN (NBC 26) -- Police are searching for a suspect in an armed robbery reported at a store in Markesan.

The Markesan Police Department responded to the robbery just before 9 p.m. Sunday at Ted's Piggly Wiggly on Margaret Street. Police said the suspect entered the store and acted as if he was shopping. He was wearing sunglasses and a surgical mask.

Police said the suspect went up to the checkout, pointed to what appeared to be a handgun in his waistband and demanded money. He ran from the store with some cash.

The suspect is described as a white male, at least 6 feet tall, with a skinny build; he was dressed in light colored blue jeans with a bluish jacket/hoodie.
