APPLETON (NBC 26) — An Appleton professor is on his way to 'The Voice' finale on NBC.
John Holiday is a music professor at Lawrence University. Tuesday night, his fans, better known as 'HoliBaes,' voted him into the Top 5 with a song bringing his coach John Legend to tears. He dedicated the song to his coach's family after the loss of their unborn son.
NBC 26 caught up with Holiday ahead of next week's show to see what his experience has been like so far.
"I've never felt like it was a shoe in," Holiday said. "So you will see me, the moment I step onto the stage I bow my head in immediate prayer, like Lord please don't let me be going home right now, but if you do, Lord just give me the peace that surpasses all understanding, and give me joy."
While originally from Texas, this opera singer has a love for Wisconsin.
"I love Appleton, and just the neighborly attitudes that are around me. I remember when I did my blind audition, they all brought over papers and put them on my front door. They were like, 'You might want these.'"
He also gave a shout out to his students at Lawrence.
While Holiday didn't give specific details about what to expect for next week's final, he did say he's singing a song that's rarely heard on TV. He'll also sing a duet with coach John Legend, and we'll possibly hear some original music.
You can help vote Holiday through on Monday when 'The Voice' airs on NBC. It starts at 7 p.m.
