APPLETON (NBC 26) — Appleton Police continue to investigate a shooting on the city's south side that left one man dead.
Authorities have now identified the man as 38-year-old Jonathan James Tolley, an Appleton resident. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who might have seen or had contact with him between the hours of 2:00 A.M. and 4:30 A.M. on June 20.
According to police, the shooting happened early Sunday morning. Police said officers were sent to the 2800 block of E. Newberry Street for a suspicious person call at around 4:30 a.m. While responding to that call, officers were notified of a second 911 call indicating a stranger had broken into a neighboring home.
Police said the caller reported being in a bedroom with the door locked and could hear an unknown male yelling in the residence. A short time later officers were notified a gun had been fired.
Police said officers arrived at the home and found a male with a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital where he later died. No one living in the home was hurt.
The Appleton Police are not looking for any suspects and no one has been taken into custody for this incident.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday, the results of which are pending.
