Appleton Police: Armed robbery suspect injured when gun recoils

APPLETON (NBC 26) — Appleton Police said a suspect in an armed robbery was injured when the gun he fired recoiled and hit him in the forehead.

Early Wednesday morning, just after midnight, Appleton Police department responded to a report of an armed robbery in progress at Memorial Liquor on South Memorial Drive.

Police said when officers arrived, they found an employee of the business who had sustained non-life-threatening injuries after being struck several times by the suspect who was armed with a handgun.

During the robbery, police said the suspect did discharge the handgun one time. No one was struck by the round, but police said the suspect was injured by the firearm recoiling and striking him in his forehead.

Appleton Police Officers located the suspect leaving the area and took him into custody. A firearm was recovered at the scene of the robbery.

Police identified the suspect as Kyle D. Peebles of Appleton. He was confined at the Outagamie County Jail on the following charges: armed robbery, first degree recklessly endangering safety, substantial battery, felon in possession of a firearm, disorderly conduct with use of a dangerous weapon, and two counts of felony bail jumping.
