A new stay-at-home order specific to the City of Appleton will go into effect Thursday morning.

The order, signed by Appleton Health Officer Kurt Eggebrecht, is set to go into effect at 8 a.m. May 14 and run until 8 a.m. on May 20.

Individuals in Appleton, under the order, are to stay at their home or place of residence, with exceptions similar to the statewide stay-at-home order. The Wisconsin Supreme Court struck down the statewide stay-at-home order extension on Wednesday as invalid. "While the decision immediately ended the emergency order, the underlying threat of COVID-19 remains present in our community," according to a news release from the City of Appleton.

The Appleton order allows people to leave their homes for essential activities like getting groceries, going to the doctor, getting exercise outside, or caring for someone in a separate household.

Essential workers are allowed to go to work and standalone shops or shops in strip malls may allow in-person shopping of up to five customers at a time. Salons and spas may not perform in-person services.

Restaurants and bars may not allow in-house dining or drinking.

The order states that violation or obstruction of the order “is punishable by up to 30 days imprisonment, or up to $250 fine, or both.”

According to a news release from the City of Appleton: "'[T]he City of Appleton is coordinating with City of Menasha Health Department and health departments of Brown, Calumet, Outagamie and Winnebago counties to continue all parts of the Safer at Home order." No similar orders have been received from the other listed agencies as of 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, except for Brown County.
