GREENVILLE (NBC 26) — Appleton International Airport saw a record-breaking month in July, surpassing the most monthly passengers in the airport’s 56-year history.
"This past month of July, we saw over 77,000 passengers come through our doors and many of them just wanting to get out and travel to see a lot of families taking advantage of some of the great flight opportunities that Appleton Airport has to offer," said Abe Webber, Appleton Airport director.
The airport's previous record was 75,000 travelers in March of 2019.
Appleton Airport’s growth is attributed to strong family and vacation travel, supported by increased flights from American Airlines, Allegiant and United Airlines. The airport was also recognized by Boyd Group International as one of the nation’s top 25 growth markets earlier this year.
"So, our staff is very aggressive at looking at where people fly today, where our community wants to go tomorrow, and so we expect that we will be able to add new flights," Webber said. "We just added the Allegiant Aircraft base and so we’re going to see increase flight activity there, and current destinations plus we expect new destinations to be added shortly."
