'Aiming to get on the board': 2021 Wamo State Dart Tournament brings out hundreds

GREEN BAY (NBC 26) — Aiming to get on the board, that’s what hundreds of people did over the last few days during the"WAMO" Wisconsin Amusement & Music Operators State Dart Tournament.

The event that began Wednesday and went through Sunday was hosted at the Resch Center.

After last year’s tournament was canceled due to COVID, players said they couldn’t be more excited to come out.

“The game of darts, first and first most it's just game but when you go beyond that, you make so many friends. The comradery that comes with darts is unparalleled. You make such great everlasting friendships. At the end of the day darts are darts, but the bonds you make, those live on forever,” said Josh Chrescini, a player from New London.

2021 Wamo State Dart Tournament

Those who participated in the tournament had to play at least 60 games in a Wamo sanctioned league by April 15 in order to qualify for the tournament.

“Anybody can do it at any age, you got old people, young people. It’s a way of getting together and having some fun," said Thomas Konitzer, Green Bay.

Konitzer is the owner of Wise Fools Pub in Green Bay. He shares with us a little bit about the dart leagues his bar sponsors. Watch below:

This game is proof of how it can really bring people together.

For one team, they say this tournament is a way to remember their friend who passed away.

“A buddy of ours who had passed away tragically so we kind of dedicated the season directly to him,” said Aaron Bigboy.

The team shares with us their chant that gets them hyped up and ready to play darts.

The five day event brought out more people than ever.

“When its all said and done all the people that have played in singles, doubles, crickets come back for the finals we had 11,058 people,” said Dale Saunders, tournament director.
